Do You Suffer From Bikini Breakout?

Bikini breakout and ingrown hairs are more common than not. Breakout, irritation, razor bumps/rash and ingrown hairs commonly occur after waxing and/or shaving.

Hair removal is a disruption to the hair follicle. The disruption of the hair follicle paired with the existing bacteria and fungi already present on our skin combined with warmth and/or sweat is the ideal breeding ground for what is known to be folliculitis.

Folliculitis refers to the inflammation of a hair follicle aroused by staphylococcus aureus. Mild cases of folliculitis present as superficial inflammation; however, more severe cases of folliculitis tend to present as papules and pustules, with a nodule at the end of the hair follicle. Oftentimes, folliculitis can be treated topically with Clindamycin or Mupirocin.

How can I tell if I have a follicular infection?

There is a good chance you have folliculitis if the infection has been lingering and you’ve been unsuccessful in treating it on your own. Folliculitis can be persistent if not treated properly and has been known to stick around for years in some cases.

Folliculitis is very common and can be chronic, simply because of the shame factor of having it looked at and treated.
